Woman Dies in Drunk Driving Car Accident in Sacramento, Prompting Questions about Rights of Surviving Family Members Under California Laws
For a driver to get into a motor vehicle after having had a “few too many” is obviously a senseless, careless, and criminal act in California. However, the sad truth of the matter is that some drivers in Ventura and throughout the state (and country) continue to “tie one on” and then get into the car to drive home or to the next stop on the agenda. No one is more impacted by these careless actions than the innocent drivers that are killed by drunk drivers, as well as their family members and community. Unfortunately, the Sacramento community experienced one more drunk driving death recently.
According to ABC News 10, a female passenger was killed on June 2, in Sacramento on Capital City Freeway near Exposition Boulevard. The California Highway Patrol is still investigating the terrible accident, but, so far, they indicate that they believe that the female passenger was riding in a Nissan Altima that was hit by a Toyota Corolla that was driving the wrong way. The Toyota is believed to have been driving southbound in the northbound lanes of the highway. The collision pushed the Nissan Altima into the center median of the road. The driver of the Nissan Altima was taken to a nearby hospital for emergency medical care, but, unfortunately, the female passenger was killed in the accident. Although details about the female passenger’s identity have not been released, the California Highway Patrol noted that she “was in her late 20’s”. The driver of the Toyota Corolla fled the scene, classifying the fatal accident as a “hit-and-run”. The driver of the Toyota Corolla was apprehended at a nearby Courtyard Marriott hotel, located on Tribute Road, and was arrested on “suspicion of DUI”.
