Multiple-Vehicle Accident in Ventura Involving 3 Separate Pick-Up Trucks Ends in Critical Injury, DUI Charge

Pickup

A multiple-vehicle accident involving three separate pick-up trucks ended with one person going to the hospital with critical injuries, several others being injured, and a Driving Under the Influence (DUI) charge. According to local news reports, on New Year’s Day of this year, three trucks, including a 2008 Ford F-350, a 2002 Ford Ranger, and a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado were involved in a crash at Wooley Road and Commercial Avenue in Ventura County. The multiple-vehicle accident occurred just after 2:10 p.m. on January 1. When police officers arrived on the scene, they found the F-350 truck in the middle of the intersection, and the other trucks were scattered on opposite sides of the crossing.

Investigators looking into the incident believe that the driver of the F-350 truck, who was identified as a 25-year-old Oxnard resident, was driving westbound on Wooley Road when he entered the intersection against a red light. The two other trucks that were involved in the accident are believed to have had the green light when the Ford F-350 hit them. The driver of the F-350 was not injured and remained on scene after the accident. The driver of the Ford Ranger, however, a 56-year-old man, was seriously injured and was taken to the hospital in “critical condition.” Six people in total were reported to have been taken for emergency medical treatment as a result of the three-truck collision, and their injuries were reported to range from minor injuries to critical injuries.

This accident ended in the arrest of the driver of the F-350 after he was evaluated by police officers for signs of drug or alcohol use. Speed was also suspected to be a factor in the accident. The driver was ultimately arrested and charged with driving under the influence of drugs causing injury, and he was taken to jail with his bail set at $60,000. It remains to be seen whether there will be any criminal convictions or civil lawsuits in response to this multiple-vehicle collision.

Ventura Car Accident Victims have Rights to Compensation under California Personal Injury Laws

Even though the driver of the F-350 was arrested and now faces DUI charges, the truth of the matter is that while criminal charges may deter and punish a driver who has broken the law and injured others on the road, victims of serious car accidents are typically not compensated under California criminal laws. Instead, the victims of serious car accidents in California must bring a separate lawsuit under California civil personal injury laws to recover compensation for their injuries and losses. There is a limited time to file a claim for compensation under California personal injury laws, so it is best to speak with an experienced Ventura car accident lawyer as soon as possible about your case.
