Identities of Deceased and Other New Details Released this Week in Kearny Mesa, California Car Accident that Killed 4

In case you missed it last week, a horrific multi-vehicle car accident claimed the lives of four occupants on California’s State Route 163 in Kearny Mesa. The collision is suspected to have been caused by drunk or otherwise under-the-influence driving. Recently, new details were released by local law enforcement, including the names and ages of the victims who were ultimately killed in the terrible collision, as well as some of the details of what led up to the multi-vehicle crash.

On July 22, authorities released the names and ages of the victims killed in the accident: Faruk Cetin, 27 years old, Mahsun Dursun, 23 years old, Abdurrezak Hizmali, 27 years old, and Baris Savas, 25 years old. All four of the young male victims had been riding in one of two Toyota Prius sedans involved in the horrific accident. The four men are said to have been ejected from the Prius. Mr. Cetin and Mr. Dursun are said to have died at the scene of the accident, while Mr. Hizmali and Mr. Savas were taken to the hospital for attempted life-saving medical care, but they ultimately succumbed to their injuries.

In addition to the identities of the four victims, local law enforcement officers also provided insights into how the suspected DUI car accident began. According to their investigation, officers believe that a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck rear-ended the Toyota Prius in which the 4 victims were riding, on the southbound side of Interstate 805 a little before 1:30 a.m. on July 19. The impact from the Toyota Tacoma hitting the Prius caused it to lose control and crash. When the Prius crashed, the four occupants were ejected out of the vehicle. The third vehicle that was involved in the accident, another Toyota Prius, had happened to come upon the scene and crashed as well. It remains to be seen whether the DUI charges levied against two of the drivers will result in criminal convictions.
