Fatal Crash in Ventura County Involving 19-Year-Old Teen Ends in DUI Arrest

It seems these days that not even one week can go by without hearing the terrible news of another senseless and fatal drunk driving accident in Ventura County. Last month, the unfortunate news spread throughout Ventura County of the death of one person and the arrest of another in yet another suspected drunk driving car collision. According to local news reports, on Saturday, January 18, at around 9:45 p.m., a two-car collision occurred at the intersection of Victoria and Doris avenues in Oxnard. The vehicles involved were reported to be a Nissan Cube that was heading north on Victoria avenue, and a Toyota Sienna Van that was traveling through the intersection of Victoria and Doris. The Nissan Cube is believed to have “broadsided” the Toyota Sienna as it went through the intersection.

The driver and male passenger in the Toyota Sienna suffered significant injuries in the accident. The passenger, after being taken to Ventura County Medical Center for emergency medical treatment, unfortunately succumbed to his injuries. The driver was reported to be in “critical but stable condition” according to last reports.

The driver of the Nissan Cube, identified as a 19-year-old Oxnard man, was treated for minor injuries after the accident and was arrested after showing “symptoms of being impaired due to alcohol intoxication at the hospital.” The 19-year-old man was booked into county jail for driving under the influence of alcohol. Speed is also believed to have been a factor in the deadly collision. It remains to be seen whether the driver of the Toyota Sienna will pull through and recover, and whether the driver of the Nissan Cube will be criminally convicted.
