Blown Semi-Truck Tire on California’s I-15 Freeway Injures 1, Highlighting “Hidden” Dangers of Sharing California Roads with 18-Wheelers

TireBlowout

A motorcycle rider was injured in what some may describe as a “freak” semi-truck accident on California’s I-15 Freeway last month. According to local news reports, the nearly-fatal semi-truck accident happened on the evening of Tuesday, July 23 at a little after 10:00 p.m. on the southbound side of I-15, south of the Main Street off ramp in Hesperia, California. Witnesses indicate that the accident started because a semi-truck that was traveling on the freeway blew a tire. The witness, who, fortunately, was not injured in the semi-truck accident, stated that “The truck itself nearly hit our car, but our mom sped off, avoiding the wall of the freeway.”

The witness also noted that the semi-truck’s blown tire caused the truck’s front hood and bumper to detach from truck and hit the motorcyclist. The motorcyclist, who has been only identified as a male, was thrown from the motorcycle because of the semi-truck’s tire blowout, and he is said to have suffered from “significant road rash and other injuries.” The motorcyclist was taken to the hospital for medical treatment, and the California Highway Patrol temporarily stopped traffic flow on the highway to clear the 18-wheeler accident and provide medical care to the motorcyclist. Coincidentally, the victim in the semi-truck accident had just left Desert Valley Hospital, where his friend, 22-year-old Anthony Rodriguez, passed away after being involved in a motorcycle accident that same evening at Maple Avenue and Sycamore Street in Hesperia.

Semi-Trucks and 18-Wheeler Trucks Pose “Hidden” Dangers on California Roads

The semi-truck accident that injured the motorcyclist on the I-15 Freeway last month serves as a reminder – and perhaps even a warning – that semi-trucks often pose “hidden” dangers to other drivers out on the road. The semi-truck tire blowout that seriously injured the motorcycle rider shows how in an instant a semi-truck malfunction can result in a near-fatal accident. Accordingly, Ventura drivers should be especially vigilant and careful when driving near or around semi-trucks.
