For unknown reasons, the bicyclist abruptly turned into the northbound lane of SR-1, directly into the path of the Mazda, and a crash occurred.” The California Highway Patrol also added that investigators believe that the bicycle rider was thrown from his bicycle into the roadway as a result of the collision, and he sustained “significant injuries.” The bicyclist was declared dead at the scene of the accident. The driver and passenger that were riding in the Mazda 3 were not injured. The accident remains under investigation. No charges have been filed as of the date of the most recent reports, and there has been no indication that drugs or alcohol played a part.
