In May 2022, a terrible and fatal car accident resulting in three innocent young women losing their lives to a drunk driver shook the Ventura County community. According to local news reports, on May 14, 2022, 18-year-old Yvonne Joby of Ventura, 23-year-old Yasmeen Jobeh of Oxnard, and 20-year-old Jennifer Dagher of Ventura, were killed in a drunk driving car accident. The multi-fatality drunk driving car accident is reported to have occurred at around 11:55 p.m. At that time, officers responded to a car accident on Interstate 118 eastbound, near the transition to Interstate 405. At the scene, officers found a 2003 Mercedes-Benz C240 sedan with the three women inside, “fully engulfed in flames”. The women had been hit by a 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL550 convertible while stopped in the right lane of the transition road.  The driver of the convertible Mercedes-Benz, 63-year-old Karen Gharibyan of Glendale, California, is said to have crossed over the triangular section between I-118 and I-405 for undetermined reasons while he was traveling eastbound on I-118 and hit the stopped Mercedes-Benz sedan with the women inside. It is unclear why the women were stopped on the road, however, on impact, their vehicle was hurled into the sound wall of the Interstate, where it burst into flames.

Gharibyan suffered “major injuries” as a result of the collision and was transported to the hospital for emergency medical treatment. He was arrested on murder charges for the deaths of the three young women, and initially pleaded not guilty to all three charges.
