Dump Truck Accident Kills Former Santa Rosa Teacher, One Unidentified Victim, 9 People Hospitalized in Truck Crash

DumpTruck

Sad and unfortunate news hit newspaper and website pages in August, highlighting the dangers that dump trucks, semi-trucks, and other large trucks pose to other drivers on the road. According to local news reports, ABC 7 News, on Thursday, August 29, a dump truck crashed into a line of 11 cars, killing one woman and injuring a total of nine others. Officials who are investigating the accident indicate that the fatal accident occurred at around 11:50 a.m., while the 11 cars were waiting at a red light that was located on California’s Highway 12 at Fulton Road in Santa Rosa. Details are sparse as to why the dump truck plowed into the line of cars at the intersection, killing 78-year-old Pat LaFortune, a former Santa Rosa Cardinal Newman High School history teacher and track coach. Reports also indicate that another driver was also killed in the dump truck accident, but that individual’s name has not yet been released. Some of the 9 injured victims of the dump truck accident were hospitalized for “serious” injuries. The investigation into the terrible and fatal dump truck accident is ongoing, and it remains to be seen what caused the dump truck driver to plow into the line of cars.

Dump Trucks, Semi-Trucks, and Other Large Trucks Pose Threat to Ventura Drivers

As the recent case in Santa Rosa indicates, dump truck, semi-truck, and other large truck accidents are often fatal. These large trucks pose a threat to the health and safety of other drivers on the road in smaller vehicles, due to their weight and size. In addition, large trucks, such as dump trucks and semi-trucks, may not have rapid stopping capabilities and often don’t have great visibility of other vehicles on the road. It is important for Ventura drivers to maintain a safe distance when driving near or around these large trucks, and to follow the rules of the road.
