3 Dead and 3 Injured in “Violent” Pasadena Car Crash, Driver Had Previous DUI Record
A terrible and violent car accident that claimed the lives of three young Pasadena residents and injured three more has shaken a local community. According to the Los Angeles Times, on Saturday, May 11, a high-speed car accident ended in a deadly collision with a building, killing three of the six young occupants that were in the vehicle. Although investigators are still looking into exactly what caused the deadly collision, it appears that six young friends ranging from ages 17 years old to 22 years old were riding in a five-seat Tesla Model 3, driven by 22-year-old Moheb Reda Samuel, of Pasadena. Police believe that 22-year-old Esrom Fessemaye, also of Pasadena, was sitting next to Samuel in the passenger seat of the vehicle. Four passengers sat in the back of the Tesla; 20-year-old Pasadena resident Emerson Newquist, 18-year-old Bella Ramirez of Monrovia, 17-year-old Emily Samuel (Moheb Samuel’s sister) and 20-year-old Stephan Michael “Mike” Pfeiffer of Pasadena.
At the time of the accident, investigators believe that the Tesla was speeding at over 100 miles per hour, when Samuel hit a curb, which launched the Tesla into a building. Samuel had been heading westbound on Foothill Boulevard in Pasadena when it is believed that he lost control of the vehicle as he was “navigating a bend in the road”. When Samuel hit the curb, the Tesla flew over 130 feet in the air before it first hit a utility pole and then crashed into the building. Unfortunately, Samuel and his passenger, thought to be Fessemaye, were killed at the scene of the accident. Investigators believe that Pfeiffer was ejected from the vehicle and also died at the scene. The three other passengers in the back seat of the Tesla were injured in the accident, but it was believed that they would survive.
Reports indicate that Samuel was previously charged with drunk driving last September. However, investigators do not yet know if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the recent fatal accident. Investigators indicate that as of now, they do not believe that the Tesla malfunctioned.
